The City of Sulphur
Sulphur is named for the mineral that was mined here. Sulphur is referred to as "the pride of Southwest Louisiana." One of the things that it is most proud of is that it is known as the Gateway to the Creole Nature Trail. It is also home to a must stop attraction, the Creole Nature Trail Adventure Point. The facility will feature interactive hands-on exhibits on the unique estuary systems along the Creole Nature Trail All-American Road along with the food, music, history and culture of Southwest Louisiana. When in Sulphur you might also want to visit the Brimstone Museum Complex in the Southern Pacific Railway depot and the Henning Cultural Center, next door, which features the works of local artists and craftsmen as well as traveling exhibits. The museum features exhibits and artifacts associated with the sulfur mining that occurred here in the late 1800s and early 1900s.
